Degradation of Memories
What makes us humans differ from other species? Is it memories? If yes, then there arises a hypothetical question, “What if we lose all the memories?”, Do we turn into animals with less sophisticated daily goals of eating, mating, and sleeping instead of preying, prying, and praying?
I have a friend who likes all the reels without even knowing the context and seeing the full video, a man with no credibility I reckoned, but then I understood his assignment. He will see the reel multiple times and laugh with the same energy and enthusiasm, disregarding the economics principle, “Law of diminishing marginal utility”. The flaw wasn’t in the principle but in him. He can't recollect whether he has seen it prior or not. I got justified with his reel-liking syndrome, as when he saw the reel he could make sure whether he had seen it prior.
The art of boredom is lost now, we don't have the privilege of being bored, unless we forget our phones, which is rarer than those two big guys who said to visit on Christmas and Onam respectively. My niece, without a phone in hand, chants, "I’m bored." But with a phone, she doesn’t even bother to see her uncle, who is busy scrolling as well.
I think only bored humans can shape something better. Creativity arises from the boredom. What if Einstein was busy scrolling the Insta reels, ‘The Theory of Relativity’ might have changed to ‘The Theory of Relatable Contents’, guess what, it’s ok to get bored, at least to preserve the memories, we have.
